HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. – Sweet Briar swimming (4-1) handily defeated the Randolph WildCats (1-1) at Hampden-Sydney College today, 143-44.
The Vixens started the meet off strong with a victory in the 400-meter medley relay thanks to junior
Elizabeth Sanford (Charlotte, N.C.), sophomores
Kass Carpenter (Mechanicsville, Va.) and
Devin Montgomery (San Antonio, Texas) and first-year
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.). The relay team finished the race in 5:22.71, nearly 20 seconds ahead of Randolph.
Success continued for Sweet Briar in the 800-meter freestyle where first-year
Acadia ElzHowe (Georgetown, Texas) set a new school record in her 9:52.19 finish. Fellow first-year
Gaby Aparicio (Quetzaltenango, Guatemala) finished in second with a time of 11:43.58.
The Vixens finished in first and second in the 200-meter freestyle with Sanford taking the victory with a time of 2:41.41 followed by senior
Rachael Mills (Plymouth Meet, Pa.) with times of 2:50.02 and 2:54.41, respectively.
In the 50-meter freestyle junior
Peyton Murphy captured the victory in 30.25 followed by first-year
Mary Catherine Warner (Virginia Beach, Va.), Montgomery and first-year
Halle Moore (Waldorf, Md.).
ElzHowe captured her second and third victories of the day in the 200-meter IM and the 100-meter butterfly with times of 2:43.27 and 1:11.20, respectively.
Carpenter earned an individual first-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle after finishing the race in 1:08.77 and in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:24.67.
Warner secured her first individual collegiate victory in the 100-meter backstroke, finishing two seconds ahead of the second-place finished with a time of 1:22.25
Also earning her first individual collegiate victory was Lewis in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:28.77.
The Vixens closed out the meet with a win in the 200-meter freestyle relay, finishing nearly 30 seconds ahead of the WildCats.
